Diversity as a key to success...

While we are not a USDA certified organic farm, we manage our land very much under the same guidelines. Our reasons for not pursuing the USDA label are that of principle and scale. All of our fertilizer inputs and pest control applications are listed by the OMRI. (Organic Materials Research Institute.) Our biggest effort in pest control is to increase the plant diversity in the garden. Since scaling up the amount of land put into flowers and cover crops each year, we have noticed an increase diversity in the insect population.

This year we hope to partner with the NRCS through a grant for pollinator habitat. One of the greatest ideas for our farm is for it to be an oasis in the sea of mono-culture that is the Southern Indiana agricultural landscape.

We remain committed to producing as diverse a variety of vegetables as we are able. All the while encouraging the micro-biology in the soil and the diverse habitat in which the natural systems of life can thrive.
